This congress considers the question of affect in psychoanalysis. Freudian metapsychology defines affect as “the qualitative expression of the quantity of drive energy and its variations”. Drawing on clinical experience, M. Papageorgiou focuses on the analyst’s capacity for reverie, where the play and reality of both patient and analyst are summoned. Affect thus finds its place in the therapeutic space as an elaboration of unconscious perceptions, enabling the work of metabolization necessary for the treatment to begin.
