The College of the Good Road and its academic curriculum in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland (1949–1951)

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2019. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Between 1949 and 1951, Moral Re-Armament, a transnational religious and anticommunist movement, established a private university—the College of the Good Road—which operated in Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It was an institution designed to train its youngest recruits in the “war of ideas” in order to defend a Christian-inspired society in the midst of the Cold War. This article thus uses a case study as a starting point to analyze the international network of economic, political, academic, and religious elites who actively participated in the activities of the College and of Moral Re-Armament. This provides us with a better understanding of the role of religious movements in the processes of the Americanization of Europe, as well as the internationalization of the elites.
