To ask the question of the resources of the parents is to ask the question of their capacities to analyze their situation. Specifically it is the question of how professionals rely on these capabilities and help to develop them. By taking data from two previous studies (one on assessment, the other on interviews between parents and professionals) the article relates to the way in which the initial capacity or incapacity to analyze is mobilized to arrive at a shared diagnosis. It tends to raise the question of possibilities available to stakeholders to go beyond existing situations and institute new and unusual ways of saying and doing.
