In French, the words “éthique,” of Greek origin, and “morale,” of Latin origin, both nouns and adjectives, mean the same thing in etymological terms, a reflection on the manners of people. So why differentiate between these terms? A review of the history of ideas shows that it is always a question of abandoning, for a wide variety of reasons, one position in favor of another perceived as superior.
