French emigrants have eleven deputies, twelve senators, an advisory assembly, and 443 consular councilors to represent them. This network of mandates has contributed to the emergence of a French political space outside of France in which French political parties have gradually invested. A few weeks after its launch, in the run-up to the 2017 elections, La République en Marche (LREM) thus endeavored to develop its structures abroad. This proved successful, with Emmanuel Macron’s party winning even stronger electoral support outside of France than in metropolitan France, obtaining ten of the eleven deputies. By focusing on the modalities, dynamics, and configurations of the establishment of LREM abroad, this article analyzes how the party managed to establish itself as the dominant player in the French political space outside of France during the 2017 elections.
