Security of the Strong Against Asymmetry of the Weak Asymmetric actors have disproportionate means as well as different military and political aims. They search for the strategic advantage in order to compensate their own weaknesses, curtail the technological and political superiority of their adversary and therefore enhance the enemy’s vulnerability, by using alternative means. Asymmetry marks the end of traditional warfare, based on the balance of power between two poles and nuclear deterrence. Often called the « weapon of the weak », asymmetry allows disproportionate results with limited means. Therefore, the traditional security postulates are completely shattered, to the point that it leads us to believe that asymmetry reinforces a general feeling of insecurity, itself disproportionate.
