The numerous definitions of the concept of geopolitics generally address the potential sources of current or future conflicts. In that respect, it seems relevant to consider that the sharing of the world’s fresh water resources is progressively but certainly becoming a major geopolitical issue. The destruction of the environment is largely due to fierce competition between globalized economies, with repercussions on both the quality and the quantity of “blue gold” resources. The question arises whether or not water is replacing oil as the major source of conflict and competition.
