Subversive Vocal Presences in Salah Garmadi’s short story “Le Cireur” (The Shoeshine)

This paper examines the vocal dimension of language in Salah Garmadi’s short story “Le Cireur” (“The Shoeblack”). We shall first notice the elements of orality born from Tunisian popular speech, then we shall show that Garmadi’s text is an enunciative space conceived as a site of struggle between two social categories. To avoid a clash, the parties have to respect a kind of polyphonic contract.
