This paper shows that if we look beyond French borders, the concept of literary commitment is not (yet) obsolete. In fact, it can be applied to authors such as Ben Okri, a writer from Nigeria who is only beginning to be read in France despite his success in English-speaking countries, and Luis Sepúlveda, whose name is often wrongly associated exclusively with children’s literature. It is appropriate to rely on such texts as Dangerous Love by Ben Okri (1996) and Historias marginales by Luis Sepúlveda (2000) to see how a trans-historical and trans-cultural concept of literary commitment as a denunciation of the unacceptable may apply to them. While both texts are based on such denunciation, they are in fact part of a larger project this paper brings to light.
