La Mer des histoires. Genesis and editorial dynamics of Pierre Le Rouge’s edition
Type de matériel :

La Mer des histoires is a universal chronicle first published in two volumes by Pierre Le Rouge in 1488 and 1489. It is a translation of the medio-Latin treatise entitled Rudimentum noviciorum (1473). While the volume is considered one of the finest illustrated books of the fifteenth century, the content of the French text remains little known. The aim of the present contribution is to reconstruct the editorial genesis of La Mer des histoires through an analysis of the section entitled Des additions du translateur tirees des croniques de France, inserted by the translator at the beginning of the first volume, and through a partial collation between the paper and vellum editiones principes.
