Since the July 14, 2016 attack, the field of child psychiatry has been faced with an unprecedented situation, a massive influx of children and families in an emergency situation and acute distress. For the first time in France, a pediatric population aged from a few months up to eighteen years old were attacked. Previous research literature has shown how important it is to consider the secondary long term effects and impacts of such an attack on these populations, particularly on children under the age of six. Between July 14 and 28, a pediatric medical and psychological emergency unit was opened within the CHU-Lenval pediatric hospital in Nice. This article outlines the main principles of what is a unique care situation in Europe. For instance, a pediatric assessment center for psycho-trauma has been running at CHU-Lenval since the beginning of January. Since the night of the attack, we have received 1,100 pediatric victims aged between three months and 17.7 years, and 2,200 consultations have been carried out.
