Three recent publications allow the consideration of both the epistemological and methodological issues raised by biomedical experimentation (a new edition of Claude Bernard’s Introduction to the Study of Experimental Medicine) and of the ethical issues bearing on the choice of experimental subjects. Socially dominated groups, whose bodies had first been subjected to the hazards of experimentation (Grégoire Chamayou), may, in different historical and social contexts, claim access to medical research programs (Steven Epstein).
