Nietzsche’s Reading of Pascal: “the only logical Christian”
Type de matériel :
95
The importance of Pascal in Nietzsche’s thought is well illustrated by the phrase the latter uses to characterize the former, that of “ logical Christian”. According to Nietzsche, Pascal embodies the struggle between Christianity and the morality that derives from it, and accordingly between Christian faith and scientific probity, which are both related to the idea that God is truth, that truth is divine. Because he considers his own thought as a way for Christianity to overcome itself, Nietzsche does not hesitate to regard Pascal as one of his precursors.
