Due to anxiety arising from passivity, some teenagers respond with self-withdrawal behaviour, by dropping out of school, showing signs of dependency, retreating socially and isolating themselves progressively at home. The parents, caught up in the family bonds, also become very isolated in a way that can lead to an escalation in violence. Moreover, adolescents never request assistance in these conditions because, for them, resistance is probably the only way to survive. How can we try to help them out of these paradoxical situations ? In a guidance center, we chose to work with youths by offering them group counselling, which is open to difficult parenting questions.
