Two letters from 1866 and 1867 sent by Théodule Ribot, then a young philosophy teacher at Vesoul’s lycée, to his classmate Léonce Pinguaud, together with the administrative files and reports in which his superiors assessed his behaviour and teaching, shed light on the circumstances of philosophy teachers during the French Second Empire.
