Contact with the known and the unknown is fundamental for maintaining good psychic functioning. Bion suggests employing the concept of evolution in O (the thing in itself, divinity, the mother) while distinguishing it from the transformation K (Knowledge, knowledge about something). Coming into contact with the unknown and the fact of remaining in contact with its evolution are essential in group psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In the group setting, however, the contact with and preservation of this contact are expressed in forms and modalities that are different from those of the standard treatment.I will present a clinical sequence of four sessions which will make it possible to follow – in sufficient detail – the process within a group and to recognise the therapeutic effects and the personal transformation of the participants that this process entails.
