This article examines the psychic reorganisations at work during the ageing process, while taking into account both their disorganising and their creative and reparative aspects. In this context, I discuss the practice of group artistic mediations (within an establishment catering for dependent elderly people) using the fairy tale as a narrative and identificatory medium of support with the aim of sustaining or stimulating the processes of thought and creativity. The group dynamic of the residents is articulated in the here-and-now of the exchanges with the mediation, supporting the expression of an (inter) subjectivity. The containing function of this type of setting seems helpful as a means of gaining access to a transitional space and of helping them symbolize their current and past conflicts. Furthermore this mediation, by virtue of its content, has a strong potential for facilitating identification, story-telling, historicization, and the articulation of primary and secondary processes.
