The Frame as a Group Configuration, a Process in Creation?

The clinical experience of a discussion group for adult patients hospitalized in a psychiatric service specialized in problems of trauma, suicide and addiction illustrates a theoretical reflection on the frame as a process in creation. The authors envisage the frame of the group therapeutic settings as a process and thus as the object of a work of creation, thought and transformation in the analyst himself in the service of a creative movement which may occur a posteriori in the patients. Before thinking of the frame as “non-process”, it is thus apprehended as inseparable from a prior creative dimension. Particular attention has been given to the modalities deployed and to the work of elaboration which they constantly undergo, obliging the analyst to introduce changes underpinned by a process, which, if it is not creation, is at least in a process of creation.
