On the hermeneutical stucture of Kantian reason

I claim that Kantian thought has to develop itself into hermeneutics for structural reasons. This label has been sometimes denied to the Kantian theory of interpretation, for the primacy of our moral destination would not allow the possibility of a truly foreign meaning. But this criticism relies on an unsatisfying comprehension of Kantian morality, which, on the contrary, precisely consists in the fact of experimenting an irreducible distance to one’s own self. According to this practical fact (i.e. the distance to one’s self), it is necessary to interpret the works of culture, and even to some extent of nature, in order to recognize in them that which refers to our own effort in making ourselves our own.
