From the virtual group to transference through diffraction on the digital network

The psyche of the subject and his/her relationships with others are from the outset part of the virtual. The virtual Other is, in effect, a place for representing others, which makes its anticipation possible. But this intersubjective and virtual dimension is also at work with “more-than-one-Other”. The virtual group is an integral part of the internal group, but also a place of transgenerational transmissions. However, digital groupality forms a space for reactualising the virtual group. We find this intersubjective dynamic in “transference through diffraction on the digital network”, a situation in which the analysand in individual treatment projects elements of his internal group not only on to the analyst, but also on to the subjects of a digital groupality, or even on to the digital scene as a whole. A clinical vignette illustrates this new form of diffraction on the digital network.
