The endings of a group of dramatherapy with adolescents

In this article the author discusses the context of an analytic dramatherapy workshop within a part-time therapeutic centre (CATTP) for adolescents. The group is formed for a school year, thus with a determined end. But it also has its place within a longer period of time because some participants or carers may have been there before the group or continue afterwards. The different forms that the ending can take are unfolded: the end of sequences, of improvisations, of the workshop, of the year, and of the participation in the group. Several vignettes and a case study show how these endings, accompanied by work on play and the imaginary, help some young people to develop or strengthen their transitional processes. The end is elaborated as the beginning of something else. It is also envisaged as the temporal guarantee that permits both patients and carers to plunge into what is sometimes a difficult relationship.
