Contemporary evaporations. Collective responsibility in the context of the pandemic

The authors look at some of the psychic and sociopolitical issues and consequences of the world-wide crisis determined by the covid-19 pandemic. It is a question of understanding, through direct contact with current events, how this pandemic exacerbates processes that were already underway in contemporary societies, which the authors propose to call the “evaporation of collective responsibility”, and how it constitutes a turning-point. From the constraint of social distancing to the rhetoric of war, are we witnessing the fulfilment of an old unconscious desire for the immunization of social bodies? How do we continue to develop a community spirit? “Immunity” measures highlight the crisis of groupality, and the public space seems to be disinhabited by the “chorus” that is indispensable for the work of subjective appropriation. Such collective power nonetheless seems, in the very midst of its withdrawal, to find new forms of re-territorialization.
