A multigenerational and intercultural group with juvenile and delinquent adolescents

The clinical work undertaken with adolescents to see how we could best help them led us to focus our interest on the sources of their socio-existential ill-being and their acting out in the New Caledonian archipelago. We present a discussion of our hypothesis about the setting, which we call “Intermediate Transcultural Space” or etci, and how it functions. We conceptualized and created a multigenerational and intercultural group with violent and delinquent adolescents. Based on the trajectory of one of these adolescents, we argue that this so-called experimental group can be conceived as a potentially humanizing multiple matrix insofar as it questions in each participant, even if they are unaware of it, what caused the rupture and impeded the construction of the experience of self-continuity, as well as its place in the passage from one generation to another.
