Bringing Different Age Groups Together: An Analysis of Intergenerational Projects in Belgium

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The authors mined a base of original data from the King Baudoin Foundation (Belgium) consisting of the applications submitted by not-for-profit organisations and public bodies in response to two calls for inter-generational projects launched by the foundation in 2006 and 2007. A total of some 300 applications (for Wallonia and Brussels) were analysed. A majority of the projects came from not-for-profit organisations working in the education and training sector. Most are artistic, cultural or other projects that involve different age groups. Only a few projects focus on transmission of knowledge and memory, “friendly gatherings” or “living together”. Most of the projects are for elderly people (aged 60 and over) and young children (aged under 12). However, a significant number target teenagers (12-20) and adults (20-60). Many projects have relatively low costs, even though they reach groups of several hundred people. A textual analysis of the presentation of the projects showed that the keywords that appeared most often were “child”, “age” “inter-generational” and expressions containing those items. The multiplicity and diversity of inter-generational projects reveal a new and crucial need in our ageing societies.
