Contemporary society currently experiences numerous conflicts that tend to undermine harmonious coexistence. Often considered to lie at the origin of these conflicts is the pluralism characterizing contemporary societies. This is why consensual liberalism seeks a kind of permanent agreement among society’s various opponents in order to resolve conflicts and thus avoid an incessantly threatening social explosion. And yet, consensualism would appear ineffective in putting an end to ever growing social conflicts. Worse, one has the impression that instead of serving as a means of social pacification, consensualism rather emerges as yet another source of conflict. This is why falsifiable consensus now appears to be an alternative better adapted to the realities of contemporary societies for the mitigation of conflicts.
