The Dream of a New Council
Type de matériel :
21
Is it enough to call for a new council, either for “going beyond” Vatican II or because it is urgent to deal with some new questions? While the frequency of councils is not determined by law, their convocation is subject to the appreciation of the situation. Yet, the aim of a council is to bolster the unity of the Church, face new questions together, and to determine adequate institutional forms. Hence, the distinction between the fundamental conciliar nature of the Church, and the council as an institutional form that expresses it, proves to be essential here. Without focusing on the idea of a Vatican III, it is necessary to imagine some new modes of expression of conciliarity, adapted to the conditions and needs of the time.
