In order to speak to God, one must know Him. This proposition that supposes one truly knows to whom one is addressing a prayer can give rise to some objections. Surveying the file and the contributions of the colloquium, this article examines the address of God as the Intrinsically-Other, the One without any known address but whom one can call for help and to whom one can say “who’s speaking please?” Addressing God as the Intrinsically-Other brings up the question of addressing any other person, and the question of our way of listening to the calls addressed to us. The paternity of God cannot be separated from fraternity or sorority of those who are close to us.
