Albert the Great’s Liber de natura et origine animae seems to have had an influence over Marsilo Ficino’s Platonic Theology on the Immortality of the Souls, especially regarding two crucial points of metaphysical and cosmological doctrine layed out in this treatise: On the one hand, the inchoation of forms within matter – forms that have come into existence through the formative power that is none other than the effect of the sky and the elements that has its source in God – guided by divine intelligence. On the other hand, the triplicity of the form, in its general status (in God, in his “canal”: heaven, in inferior matter) and more so, in its effective production that leads it to be either closer to matter, or closer to the agent, or to be midway between the agent and the matter.
