The artisanal sector is one of the driving forces of the economy of the region of Ziguinchor which, according to statistics, is the poorest in Senegal. The craft industry is an essential component of the informal sector which has been the subject of numerous studies focusing on the dynamics of accumulation. The application of the segmentation criteria used in the studies on the informal sector (dualism) to the local craft industries formally reveals two categories of units: a first sub-group with a high level of saving and investment which is placed within the economic classification in the evolutionary or expanded reproduction pole, and a second sub-group characterized by much lower levels. However, there is not always a clear-cut distinction between these two sub-groups. Dynamics implemented in a context of crisis do not necessarily differ from one another.
