It shows Unikin's powerful institutional and corporatist mechanisms by looking at the university through the prism of its history and of the current education market in the Congo. It describes the user-pay system and the organization of academic careers in particular. These two issues are central to a type of public action which is based on concessions and corporatism and seems incompatible today with the virtuous competition which underlies the national and international discourses about education reform.
