Through the mediation of individuals and technologies, the imagined borders that structure people’s beliefs about learning in, outside, and after training are undergoing a radical transformation. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a way to describe, analyze, and understand these transformations. Based on a sociocultural and mediational perspective, recognizing various types of mediators (language, media, persons, etc.) in the learning process, a theoretical framework is proposed to research and clarify how adults experience learning across places (educational or not) and over time; and to what extent their personal learning environments (PLE) mediate these learning experiences.
