The Fragile Surface of the Penultimate Drink. Deleuze and Alcoholism

Gilles Deleuze and his friend Félix Guattari are known as being the staunch critics of psychoanalysis. One glance at the books Anti-Oedipus or A Thousand Plateaus suffices to spot the political and ideological agendas of this criticism. Deleuze merely hints at his clinical approach in his first essay on fatigue published in 1948, an approach that was related to alcoholism in later works. This paper focuses on the following issue: has the philosopher managed to forge new concepts of the body and of temporality warped by his maniacal drinking bouts and nervous breakdown?
