The different points of view in two outstanding Chilean films, El Chacal de Nahueltoro by Miguel Littin (1969) and El Pejesato by José Luis Sepúlveda (2009), allow us to characterize the superego under neoliberalism. In both cases, a portrait of an outcast serves as an evocation of Chilean society as a whole, and thus of its mutation between the two films: within the space of forty years, in the aftermath of dictatorship, neoliberalism has established itself. Both films mark out a form of social marginality along with its relation to the law, giving us an insight into the superego under capitalism.
