El premio: The Absence of the Father as Metaphor for a Society Adrift

The absence of the father in El Premio (dir. Paula Markovitch, Mexico/Argentina, 2011) functions not only as an autobiographical and historical reference (being an allusion to political prisoners and to the “disappeared” under the Argentine dictatorship) but also as a metaphor for a society cut adrift after the coup of 1976. This is particularly clear in the case of mother-daughter and teacher-pupil relationships.
