At the beginning of the twentieth century, a discreet revolution takes place in the fine arts: the line becomes independent with respect to representation and design; it runs or progresses both freely and aimlessly. Where does this movement come from? How can this dynamism be understood? This text studies one possible answer, that given by Hans Prinzhorn with his notion of a “play drive.”
