Interactive map-making workshops, centered around storytelling and subjective experiences, enable residents, including those living in exile, to express themselves. They also allow inhabitants to reclaim a space-time that, until recently, no longer belonged to them. These workshops are led by a designer who has become an initiator, bridge-builder, and a mediator. They question the use of subjective, emotional data and cartographic creation in various social science disciplines. By representing the idea of collective togetherness within a small integrative context, it is also possible to consider the scope for collective action and to disrupt perceptions of the migratory phenomenon. Finally, the purpose of these workshops is to consider the creation of inter-maps as a representation of a welcoming “here and now,” based on the inhabited space of all the residents of a territory, in this case the commune of Ambert in the Puy-de-Dôme region.
