Superego versus fair play: An essay on a politics of psychoanalysis

In this article we seek to outline “a politics of psychoanalysis” aiming at transforming society. We shall start with the enactment of pure sensations deprived of any representations. Will this enactment produce fair or unfair acts? We shall oppose these enactments to those generated by the superego. At the core of this reflection we find the notion of freedom of choice and the idea that a free, rational choice can only stem from a lack. We rely on the distinction between a “subject of the unconscious” and a “subject of practical reason”. Our analysis refers to the notes written by John Rittmeister when he was a prisoner in Berlin. His notes scribbled on paper bags and scraps of paper might offer the bases for a contemporary “politics of psychoanalysis”.
