Hospital pediatrics in crisis

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2023. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The crisis in pediatrics is not a passing phase linked to a single year—2022—that was particularly challenging in terms of the bronchiolitis epidemic. The crisis predates 2022; it has been present and worsening for the past ten years. It touches all areas of children’s health, from the city to the hospital, from the public to the private sector, from prevention to curative care, from training to research. The child health care system therefore needs to be strengthened comprehensively. Unlike in other countries, epidemiological monitoring of children’s health in France is highly inadequate. The infant mortality rate is rising, and we have no idea why. Pediatric research is in decline. If we want to preserve the health of children and future adults, we need to focus above all on attracting and training professionals in the specific needs of children. We must hope that the Assises de la santé de l’enfant (child health conferences) will succeed in bringing together the actors concerned around a project focused on children’s fundamental needs, to improve their health and well-being in a sustainable way.
