In Praise of Technical Links

From the point of view of the sociology of everyday life and of the imaginary, new technologies cannot be seen as a source of alienation or homogenisation. They do not lead to the annihilation of the ontological speech (Freund) or either of the imaginative potentialities of man (Ellul). Nor even to the “enframing of the being” (Heidegger), when aiming at mobilizing men as simple technical objects. New technologies are primarily a vector of sociality. In addition, in post-modernity, the technological development is perfectly compatible with the mythological reinvestment (Durand) and with the return to communitarian values (Maffesoli). The technical connections that are developed within the information systems networks are therefore producers of social relationships and social interactions.
