The purpose of this article is to interpret the socio-anthropological meaning of the energetic and aesthetic process of anger in rock music. We shall first define rock music in the broad sense, in a structural way, and by its creative state of mind. Then, we shall speak about the notion of the aesthetics of anger; choleric energy will be conceived of as a phenomenon that must inevitably be sublimated to enter the social scene. Secondly, we shall see that this sublimation of rage is structured around a philosophy of the ordo amoris. This latter point will permit a reconfiguring of the functions and the structure of rage in rock music’s expression and creation. In a third part, we shall analyze some illustrative examples.
