This paper studies a practice created by Ron Hornbaker in 2001, namely the bookcrossing, which consists of leaving books in public places so that passersby can find and read them. We attempt to analyze the ideological, social, cultural, and economic goals of the bookcrossing. We also emphasize the fact that this practice meets the expectations of a postmodern society that wants to give a greater role to reading, free goods, and human relations.
