This article presents the results of an experimental survey research on musical tastes carried out in collaboration with teachers of economic and social sciences and their students, a total population of 1,447 young people aged between 15 and 25. The survey questionnaire includes information on listening conditions and modes of discovery (especially through personal relationships). Avoiding the bias of constructing a priori musical categories, the survey, notable for its diversity and scale, reveals six distinct universes of musical tastes which the article relates to the social characteristics of the respondents, the listening conditions and the modes of discovery.
