In this article we deal with a theme related to fear, frequent in the Brazilian and French press in the months that preceded the Rio 2016 Olympic Games: the Zika virus. Inaccurate information and few scientific data at the time increased the fear and discomfort of people directly involved in the event and of those who intended to go to the places where there was a higher incidence of the mosquito that transmits the disease. We work with reports published in the newspapers Le Monde (France) and O Estado de S. Paulo (Brazil), prioritizing front page headlines news because they draw more attention, leading readers to believe that this content should be examined in greater detail. Thus, according to media-specific logic, the way these news items are transmitted can transform data perception and interpretation, promoting new imaginaries in relation to the consumption of cities.
