Transforming International Healthcare Institutions

The international health cooperative at first took the form of a collaboration between member states that was subsequently formalized via the creation of international organizations. However, the transition from international health to world health considerably affected the institutional landscape. As such, the proliferation of non-state actors via funding and their presence in the governing bodies has influenced health at the international level. Three transformations relative to international institutions have been thusly identified: emancipation from the purely technical role of international health organizations, particularly in the case of the WHO ; the transition into world health; and a broadening of the concept of an international institution.
