Easy love and hard marriage. Love and marriage of Chinese youth in the digital era

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Love and marriage are important in the lifespan development stages of human beings, in direct connection with personal happiness and family stability. Since the “reform and opening-up policy” in 1978, Chinese society has experienced a rapid transformation. Not only are people’s views on marriage and love increasingly diversified, but their autonomy in marriage and love has also been greatly strengthened. This transformation has been further intensified with the influence of digitalization, particularly among the youth, as they are more exposed to the internet and now have more opportunities to approach people and to get to know potential lovers and/or marital partners, which was impossible before due to physical limitations. Despite the existence of some advanced elements in the consideration of marriage among the young generation, the persistence of obedience to their parents’ opinions, which are largely conservative, cannot be ignored, or rather, as is more likely, it remains mainstream. Moreover, there is also a dilemma between “material conditions” and “love” facing the Chinese youth, no less than it did the older generations. Therefore, in this article, we will analyze the situation of love and marriage among Chinese youth, more specifically, the difficulties they are facing, which communities of the youth find it more difficult to get married, and their social influence in the digital era.
