The Handmaid's Tale and the anticipation of dystopian futures
Type de matériel :

Thinking of futures as dystopian scenarios conditions us to use anticipatory mechanisms to prepare for contingency. This impacts the present, as actions are taken now, and inhibits the advent of alternative futures resulting from the process of anticipation for the emergence of the novelty. Through the example of the TV series The Handmaid’s Tale, we want to show how to liberate our visions of futures. The novelty of our work lies in the collaboration between the sociology of the imaginary and futures studies, in what we have called a “sociology of futures.”
