This paper aims to identify the social use of the notions of vulnerability and individual dignity as a marker of the social support paradigm. After clarifying the conceptions these two terms refer to, we observe that social work is adopting new approaches of intervention that reflect an evolution of person-centred practices. The presentation of the “Empowerment” and the “Dignity in Care” approaches demonstrate a strengthening of an individualistic and relational conception of dignity in response to situations of vulnerability.
