Since 2010 internal communications managers have been attending training sessions offered by the AFCI (French association for internal comms professionals). These sessions focus on the contribution of the human and social sciences to communication, and include workshops analysing professional practices. The popularity of these sessions drawing on the social sciences demonstrates new expectations from participants for more than professional skills. It also shows that internal communications managers are currently questioning their practices in companies facing tensions and contradictions.
