Putting Animals to the Test: Animals’ Bodies as Material in Contemporary Art
Type de matériel :

Some contemporary artists do not hesitate to use the animal body as new means of expression. If artists like Damien Hirst or Adel Abdessemed question the hypocrisy of our behaviour towards animal suffering, more radical artists envisage the animal solely as a new kind of material. For instance, the Chinese Sun Yuan and Peng Yu don’t content themselves with a mise en scène of animal carcasses, but use the animals’ agony as an artistic performance. The rejection from the public is more or less violent, and some pieces had to be removed from the exhibition halls. The artist’s gesture causes a debate: to what extent can one go in the name of art?
