The purpose of this study was to explore perceptions of health among children in the care of child protective services in Haute-Savoie (France). A qualitative study was conducted to explore children’s perceptions of health care. The study involved interviews with children and a quality of life questionnaire. The results show that many aspects of the quality of life of children in care are adversely affected, including energy, sleep, pain, and emotional responses. The children interviewed also identified two main issues in their life: their relationship with their family and their education. The results show that children in care tend to have a passive view of health, which appears to be related to a lack of self-confidence and to a lack of trust in relationships and institutions. The results highlight the impact of social factors on health inequalities and confirm the importance of social relationships, the sense of control over one’s life, and the feeling of recognition.
